Cotswolds in The Fall

Daylesford Farm Cottages, A Countryside Escape in the Heart of the Cotswolds.

When planning our trip to London we always try and have a little trip organized to the countryside and this time round we stayed somewhere new and checked out some of the beautiful and quaint nearby towns. I had heard many raving reviews of Daylesford Farm as being one of the best places to stay while visiting this neck of the woods and being familiar with the cafés in London I was looking forward to checking in. There are a number of different options you can book so we booked one of the Daylesford two bedroom self catering cottages.

Upon arrival you immediately feel at home, with a cosy living area and gas fire all decked out with Daylesford items. We were impressed with the decor as it felt fresh but still has some heritage.

In the kitchen you will find a freshly baked loaf of bread, daylesford jams, fresh eggs and butter all from the land which is a lovely touch. Daylesford organic is close by offering three restaurants and an extensive shop if you wish to cook in one of the evenings. This makes it a little easier if you don’t have a car but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Daylesford also has several dining options close by which you need to book well in advance if you wish to get reservations. We dined at all of the places to try them out.

The Fox at Oddington

This is the vibeyest spot offering casual dining, fun cocktails and pizza.

The Wild Rabbit

This is meant to be the best food offering but unfortunately we didn’t think it stood up to the hype. We enjoyed a few cocktails, bar bites and their classic Sunday Roast.

The Trough

We enjoyed both lunch and dinner here and they offer two different menus, this is where we had our best meals. The dinner menu was delicious and the team were fantastic, it’s super causal and the wine offering is lacking but the food makes up for it.

When visiting the Cotswolds in the past we have always stayed at Soho Farmhouse where everything is within easy walking distance, the layout of Daylesford is a little different as it requires a lot more driving. This would be one of the downsides for us as we like the ease of walking to and from the gym, the restaurants and bars. They do offer a house car but it seems rather difficult to get it to the different areas so again I’d book that in advance.

All of the towns nearby are worth going for a mooch around and taking it all in. We visited Stow on the Wold, Chipping Norton & Bourton on the Water. All quaint villages with lovely little coffee shops, antique stores and gourmet stores. In some way these little villages reminded me of going out east and seeing Amagansett, Southampton etc. These spots are definitely worth exploring in order to soak up more of the Cotswold atmosphere. If we had more time we would have explored more but out of the ones we visited Stow on The Wold was our favorite.

For people looking to relax a little more and get some treatments there is the Bamford Spa to enjoy or if you wish to workout there is the Bamford Club which at an extortionate rate of £150 pounds for a day pass I don’t think you will have many takers. If weather permits you can enjoy some nice walks but have a good coat with you.

Must Dos:

  • Reserve everything well in advance

  • Rent a car to explore nearby towns

  • Arrange a dinner party with friends or family and cook in one of the self catering cottages.

  • Ask for fresh towels daily as your cottages don’t get cleaned

The best time to visit the Cotswolds would be May - October just prepare to have some rain but these are the mildest months to be able to enjoy the outdoors. If you are a dog lover and travel with your dog Daylesford is extremely accommodating with the setup for your pooches.

There is plenty to explore in the cotswolds and it is a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of London. If you are a fan of rolling green hills, fresh country air and more of a relaxed setting then you must put the Cotswolds on your list.

Love Keva xx
